Happy Summer! It’s finally here! And in full force I might add. Holy cow, it’s a blazin’ out.
I love summer time. Mainly because I love, love, love the water. Lake, river, pool, ocean.. I DO NOT CARE. Put me by water & I’ll be happy forever. Add a book to that equation & I may never leave. Or I’ll stay until the sunscreen runs out.
Lucky for me, summer is usually filled with both of these love languages. Being a nanny means a lot of summer days are spent poolside. Which, yep, I am definitely okay with.
To kick off the beginning of summer I wanted to share my top 5 book recos for the summer. Most of these books I’ve read in the past year & they have been books that I haven’t been able to stop talking about. They’re all perfect to grab for sitting by the pool, a plane ride or just for after work!
- “Everything I Never Told You,” by Celeste Ng

Oh my goodness. I loved this book. I read it last Fall & gave it as a Christmas gift for multiple people. That really shows how much I loved it. It’s about a teenage girl, middle child of an Asian-American family in the 1970’s. It taught me a lot about speaking up & sharing what is really happening in our heads, how we need to be connected to one another. It was such an interesting, hard, enlightening story.
2. “Commonwealth,” by Ann Patchett

Wow. What a story teller! Patchett is truly amazing the way she can move from different times, stories & people but still making it all feel connected & relevant. This book made me think a lot about the power of small choices & chance in our lives. Loved.
3. “The Opposite of Loneliness,” by Marina Keegan

This is a book of short stories & essays. And each one is so stinkin’ good. I’ve read this book through a few times & then pick it up every now & then to read an individual story. This one is perfect to just keep with you whenever you have a little down time. Each story is so relatable, it’s really so comforting & crazy.
4. “Where the Crawdads Sing,” by Delia Owens

OKAY. THIS HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE BOOK IN SO LONG. Oh my word. I don’t know if I could express how much I loved this book. Like read it & then wanted to immediately re-read it. I’m obsessed with the main character, Kya. She’s so fascinating & I found myself rooting for her the entire time. Real talk, might read again this summer.
5. “The 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle,” by Stuart Turton

Now, for this book you definitely need to pay attention. It’s completely interesting & keeps you on your toes. But it does require a bit of concentration, so it would be perfect for a week at the beach or a long airplane ride. The concept was totally fascinating!
Enjoy the sunshine! Enjoy the water! Get out there & read babies!
